Frequently Asked Questions

How is BMI calculated?

Metric: weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². Imperial: 703 × weight (lb) ÷ height (in)². Both formulas are mathematically equivalent, just scaled for the unit system.

Is BMI an accurate measure of health?

BMI is a quick screening tool, not a diagnosis — it doesn't distinguish muscle from fat, so athletes and very muscular people can show a high BMI despite low body fat. Consult a healthcare provider for a full assessment.

What are the standard BMI categories?

Underweight: below 18.5. Healthy weight: 18.5–24.9. Overweight: 25–29.9. Obesity: 30 and above. These are the WHO/CDC adult reference ranges.
